Agdal Gardens — Overview

Overview
The Agdal Gardens sit south of the medina, tucked behind the Royal Palace on Avenue de la Menara.
A sprawling 17th‑century oasis, the gardens blend formal French‑inspired layouts with traditional Moroccan horticulture, offering serene pathways, tranquil ponds and fragrant citrus groves.
Ideal for casual strolls, sunset picnics or capturing the contrast between historic architecture and lush greenery, the spot is free to enter and welcomes all travelers seeking a quiet escape from the buzz of the medina.

Agdal Gardens — Local Eating

local-eating

The Gardens themselves don’t host any cafes or restaurants on the property, so plan ahead. Bring a compact picnic or stop just outside the entrance for a snack – the nearby area along Avenue de la Menara has a handful of informal stalls and small eateries that serve typical Moroccan pastries and tea, perfect for a quick bite before or after exploring the green lanes.

local‑sights

  • Agdal Gardens – a sprawling oasis of palms and fountains, open Fridays and Sundays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entrance is free. Located at J23G+GVG, Roads of the ramparts, just south of the medina and behind the Royal Palace, it’s a short stroll from the city’s main square.
  • Royal Palace – walk north from the gardens to the palace’s courtyard; the palace itself is closed during royal visits, but the gate area gives a quick glimpse of its gardens.

Both sites are within a 10‑minute walk of each other and offer a peaceful contrast to the bustling medina.
